Still Losing You

May 16, 2026 · by Mohamed Yassin

There is a kind of grief that doesn't come with funerals. It comes with mornings where someone is still beside you, but no longer truly with you. It comes in the quiet erosion of conversations that used to mean everything — now reduced to polite exchanges about groceries and weather.

I wrote "Still Losing You" on a night where the silence in the room felt louder than any song I had ever composed. The melody came first — a slow, descending piano line that felt like watching someone walk away in slow motion. The lyrics followed, like tears you didn't know you were holding.

"We don't always lose people to distance. Sometimes we lose them to the quiet spaces between words we never said."

This reflection is for anyone who has ever felt the weight of a presence that is slowly becoming an absence. For those who understand that sometimes the hardest goodbyes are the ones that never get spoken.

We don't always lose people to distance. Sometimes we lose them to the quiet spaces between words we never said.
